According to Articles 36 and 38 of Law No. 4/2010 (Social Security System), beneficiaries who receive old-age or disability pension from the Social Security Fund must provide proof of life every year to maintain the payment of benefits.  The proof of life is accepted from the 1st of January of each year. Suppose proof of life is not provided by the end of March of the year. In that case, the old-age/disability pension payment will be suspended from April until the beneficiary completes the relevant procedures.  Then, the benefits to which the beneficiary is entitled will be resumed.

Starting in 2015, old-age or disability pension beneficiaries of Macao who live in Guangdong Province can go to a social insurance agency in various cities of Guangdong Province for verification of proof of life.  After providing proof of life, the relevant information will be transmitted to the Macao Social Security Fund by the local agency.  It saves the elderly and people with disabilities time travelling between the two places and is conducive to cross-border retirement for Macao residents. Similarly, people who participate in and receive basic pension insurance benefits of Guangdong Province can also verify the proof of life status required by Guangdong at the counter of a service point of Macao Social Security Fund, without the need to go back to mainland China.
