Law No. 6/2018 came into effect on 1 October 2018.  Beginning in October, beneficiaries who are originally receiving the “Temporary Disability Allowance” from the Social Welfare Bureau automatically change to receive the social security system’s disability pension paid by the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao).  Disability benefits for the fourth quarter will be paid on October 12, in the amount of 3,450 patacas per month. 

In order to better provide basic social security for people with disabilities, the SAR Government has established earlier the “Temporary Disability Allowance” as a long term measure through amendments to the law.  On 1 October 2018, Law No. 6/2018 abolishes the application requirement for the social security system’s disability pension – the disability must appear after a person qualifies as a beneficiary, so that the disability pension can be universally applied to all persons with disabilities. 

Beginning on 1 October 2018, the beneficiaries who are originally receiving the “Temporary Disability Allowance” from the Social Welfare Bureau automatically change to receive the social security system’s disability pension paid by the FSS.  The related beneficiaries are not required to go through any formalities.  The FSS will notify the beneficiaries about the payment by mail, and the disability pension from October to December 2018 will be deposited on October 12 to the bank account designated by the beneficiary, the amount being the same as the original “Temporary Disability Allowance”, in the amount of 3,450 patacas per month.
