From This Year, the Amount of FSS’ Contributions Increased to 90 patacas
2017-01-03

According to Executive Order No. 357/2016, the contribution amount of the social security system was increased from 45 to 90 patacas on 1 January 2017.  Of which, the contribution amount of the obligatory system is 30 patacas for employees and 60 patacas for employers, and the amount for the contributions of the arbitrary system is 90 patacas.

In the social security system, contributions of local employees and contributions of the arbitrary system are paid quarterly.  Contributions of the preceding quarter are paid in January, April, July and October of each year.  January is the contribution month.  For the contributions of the fourth quarter of 2016 (October to December), employers and the beneficiaries of the arbitrary system are required to pay the old amount.  In April, employers and the beneficiaries of the arbitrary system are required to pay the new amount for the contributions of the first quarter (January to March).  In addition, contributions of the casual workers are paid in the month that immediately follows the working month of the employees.  Therefore, employers must pay the new contribution amount for their casual workers from February.
