Beneficiaries of Old-Age and Disability Pension are Required to Provide the Proof of Life in January 2017

2016-12-29

The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to “FSS” in Macao) reminds members of the public that beneficiaries currently receiving old-age or disability pension from the FSS are required to provide the proof of life in January each year and 2017 will involve more than 90,000 people.  Beneficiaries who have registered to receive SMS alerts will receive the relevant SMS notification, and unregistered beneficiaries may also register for the service when they provide the proof of life in person.

More than 90,000 beneficiaries of old-age and disability pension can bring along their valid Macao SAR Resident ID Cards to provide the proof of life in person at the following locations (see Annex 1 for details) during office hours of January:

  • Holy House of Mercy Albergue;
  • Areia Preta Service Centre of the Macao SAR;
  • Northwest District (Ilha Verde) Social Service Centre, Northern District (Tamagnini Barbosa) Social Service Centre, Central District (Lam Mau Tong) Social Service Centre, Southern District (Praia do Manduco) Social Service Centre of the Social Welfare Bureau;
  • Islands Office (Edifício do Lago) and Shek Pai Wan Office (Edifício Ip Heng) of the Housing Bureau.

Beginning on January 2nd, beneficiaries can also provide the proof of life via the self-service machines located at 42 locations in Macao using their valid Macao SAR Resident ID Cards.  If a beneficiary is also the beneficiary of Social Welfare Bureau and/or Pension Fund, he/she can provide the proof of life for the three departments at one time through the self-service machine.

Beneficiaries of old-age pension or disability pension who are currently residing in Guangdong Province may provide the proof of life at all levels of the social insurance agencies in the province.  Beneficiaries only need to bring along their valid Macao SAR Resident ID Cards to visit the agency and they will get a verification form for proof of life issued by the social insurance agency.  In order to complete the procedure of providing the proof of life, the beneficiary needs to submit to the FSS, either by mail or through a representative, the original copy of the above verification form together with a photocopy of his/her ID card.

As for beneficiaries residing in other provinces of mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan region or abroad, they can submit the required documentation to the FSS, either by mail or through a representative.

In addition, for beneficiaries who reside in Macao but, due to a serious illness, cannot move on their own to go through the formalities in person, they can ask someone to submit on behalf of them the certification issued in 2017 by a hospital or a local residential care home for the elderly, or the medical certificate issued by a medical practitioner registered in Macao certifying that he/she has provided medical consultations for the beneficiary in 2017.  For verification purposes, the representative is required to produce his/her own original ID card and that of the beneficiary when he/she submits the relevant documentation on behalf of the beneficiary.

This year, the FSS will continue to send text messages to remind beneficiaries who have previously agreed to receive text messages from the FSS.  Those who wish to receive text messages about the proof of life from next year, they can visit in person the relevant venue in January to fill out the registration form, or choose to register later at a service point of the FSS.
