Apply for participation in social insurance scheme of the Mainland or apply to be exempted from participation

1. Apply for participation in social insurance scheme

1.1. For the specific administrative procedures required for Macao residents to apply for participation in social insurance scheme of the Mainland, please check with the social insurance agency of the area where you will participate in the social insurance scheme of the Mainland.

1.2. In the "Bay Area Social Security Service Link" section of the Guangdong Government Service Network, residents may conduct social security public services of the nine cities online (including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Huizhou, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing).  The service points of the Macao Social Security Fund can also assist and guide residents in conducting the two commonly used services of the nine cities online — “Application for Registration of Basic Pension Insurance for Urban and Rural Residents” and “Application for Basic Pension for Enterprise Employees”, and provide related consulting services.

2. Apply to be exempted from participation

2.1 Macao residents hired and recruited, according to law, by employers of the Mainland can enjoy double protection if they participate in social insurance schemes of Macao and the Mainland at the same time and pay contributions in both places.

2.2 However, if a person does not intend to participate in social insurance schemes of both places, he/she can apply to be exempted from participation in the basic pension insurance and unemployment insurance of the Mainland, using the contribution record (Social Security System) issued by Macao’s Social Security Fund, but he/she should still participate in other types of insurance required by the law.

2.3 Ways to obtain the contribution record of Macao’s Social Security System:
As a proof for applying to be exempted from participation in social insurance scheme of the Mainland, Macao residents already enrolled in Macao’s Social Security System can print out their contribution records through self-service machines (with Social Security Fund’s logo), which are set-up at different locations in Macao.
